About
Built by a contractor,
for contractors like him.
Contrax was built to run one renovation company in Oshawa, Ontario. It is sold to other contractors second. The founder still uses it every day, on real jobs, with a real crew.
The company behind it
Ramsauer Renovations is a residential and commercial renovation contractor in Durham Region, east of Toronto, operating since 2017. Kitchens, bathrooms, basements, and more recently commercial clinic fit-outs. A small crew, a couple of people in the office, and the owner on the tools more days than not.
Like every small contractor, it ran on a spreadsheet for estimates, a whiteboard for the schedule, a shoebox for receipts, and an accountant who sighed every March. The software that existed was either priced for builders ten times the size, or charged by the seat so that putting the crew on it cost more than the crew.
Why it exists
Cameron Ramsauer owns the company. He is not a software person. He is a contractor who got tired of pricing a bathroom at eleven at night and started building the thing he wished existed: point the phone at the job, get a priced estimate back, then run the whole job — crew hours, materials, invoices, books — from one place, for one price.
Every feature in Contrax was built because Ramsauer Renovations needed it that week. The AI estimating exists because writing estimates was eating the evenings. The crew clock-in exists because paper timesheets were always wrong. Time-and-materials billing exists because a real client paid by the hour and the software at the time couldn't cope. Nothing in it was built to look good in a demo.
What that means for you
When something is awkward in Contrax, the person who built it is also the person who has to use it the next morning. That is a different incentive from a product team that ships features and moves on. It is why the price is one flat number, why there are no per-seat fees, and why support is a phone number that a contractor answers.
It is also why Contrax is honest about who it is not for. It is not built for large commercial general contractors or enterprise construction. It is built for the one-to- twenty-five-person renovation or trades business that is currently running on a spreadsheet and a whiteboard, and would like to stop.
How we try to be decent about it
A lot of software is priced as though the customer's year is flat. A contractor's year is not. January is quiet, spring is chaos, and December is two weeks of nobody answering the phone while you are trying to get a deposit in before the holidays.
So we don't bill for December. Not a promotion, not a first-year offer — every year, for everyone. Eleven payments a year, not twelve. Your data stays, your crew can still clock in, the charge just doesn't happen. It costs us a twelfth of our revenue and we think that is a fair price for not being the invoice that lands the week before Christmas.
The same thinking runs through the rest of it:
- One price, unlimited people. Charging per seat means a contractor leaves half the crew off the software to save money, and then the software has half the data. Everyone gets a login.
- AI included, not metered. Metering the thing that saves you an evening is a strange way to sell it.
- No annual lock-in. Month to month. If it stops earning its place, leave.
- Support is a phone number. 437-972-2113. A contractor answers it, usually from a job site.
- Your data is yours. Export it whenever you want, and we will help you move it if you go.
None of this is charity. A contractor who can afford us in January is a contractor who is still here in June. It just happens that the decent version and the sensible version are the same thing.
